Bongchun Asides

Date: 2023-07-15 07:26 pm (UTC)Bongchun had set about laying down his bedroll and pillow, not wanting to take up one of the few beds offered to the Handead, when he spied an odd, brightly-colored box toppled on its side on the ground. There had been others about the cabin but Bongchun hadn't paid them any mind when he first arrived knowing these things were really meant for the Handead groups, but seeing as this one had been left alone he let his curiosity get the better of him.
Popping open the box he found a strange little blue creature that fit easily in the palm of his hand. Its shaggy top and tiny feet were cute. When Bongchun pressed his finger against the plush stomach the stuffing gave easy then returned to its original shape. Bongchun found he couldn't help but smile at it.
Wow, when was the last time he had held a stuffed animal? He remembered having one when he had been a tiny child but...
Bongchun's brow crinkled. It wasn't like his family to ever throw things away if they weren't beyond saving. Either he lost it in the woods surrounding the outskirts of his family's farm or his mother repurposed the cloth after he had outgrown it. He could remember her taking all his old clothes and turning the worn garments into dishrags and dust cloths at some point. She had saved it all up until he was 16... then there hadn't been any reason to expect his clothes might be reused by anyone else.
Bongchun adjusted to sit down on the floor, swiping at his face with his free hand. It had been years since he had considered his parents' vain attempts at giving him siblings. Mother had called Bongchun her miracle child but still held on to the hope she would conceive more, up until the day they received news about his father's death.
Taking a deep breath, Bongchun clutched the tiny creature to his chest for a moment before he gently placed it on his pillow. The plush was able to remain upright all on its own and he couldn't resist giving it a tiny pat on the top of its head.
He couldn't stay dwelling on memories all day. As sad as the past was, he had a purpose here to fulfill in the present. It wasn't much but he was helping in the humble ways that he could. Seeing the tiny plush smile his way gave him a little boost of energy and Bongchun stood back up, intent on carrying on with his duties another day.
